ArtSprings Studio is a private art space located in the heart of the long-time artists’ haven, Springs, East Hampton, New York. ArtSprings Studio gives visitors a variety of art experiences, including a look at a working artist’s studio environment, artists’ work presented in a conceptual theme, and interactive art events where visitors can participate in an art -making experience.
Founded by artist teacher Barbara Thomas. ArtSprings Studio is also a gallery where works of art will be shown and available for sale. These will be works of Barbara Thomas, as well as special shows featuring other artists. ArtSprings Studio is an authentic artist working space where visitors can see and experience art-making processes.
Springs, East Hampton is home to contemporary artists with vibrant and unique visions. It is also the birthplace of the American Abstract Expressionist art movement. World renowned artists worked here--Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, and Elaine de Kooning among them. Artists have worked here since the 17th Century, drawn by the land, seascape and the rare light.
ArtSprings Studio is a learning center for art making classes of all kinds. Inspired by the extraordinary natural beauty of Eastern Long Island, ArtSprings is a hub for art and artists. ArtSprings supports creative art making using classical precepts. We also host unique theme-based exhibitions as well as artist talks and presentations, and group participatiory art 'happenings'.
Barbara comes from a family of artists. Her first formal art education was at The Art Students League in New York City, where she studied painting under naturalist painter Edwin Dickinson (1891-1978), followed by Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, New York. Barbara received her MFA degree from Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, Boston, Massachusetts. For ten years Barbara worked as an advertising art director in New York City, and then moved to the East End of Long Island, where she turned to painting full time.
Barbara shows work in eastern Long Island , and in New York City, as well as other galleries around the country. Barbara has become known along the East Coast, especially in the Hamptons, for her commission works of houses, gardens and properties. From there she has gone on to paint notable golf courses around the country, as well as decorative mural works in private homes and restaurants.
Barbara's skilled and detailed watercolor and oil paintings of landscapes, cityscapes, animals, gardens, and architecture have been written about in national magazines Architectural Digest, Town and Country Magazine, Forbes Magazine, and the Robb Report, and East Coast publications Quest Magazine, Hamptons Cottages and Gardens, Dan's Papers, and others.
Barbara has been teaching adult art making at leading institutions for over twenty years. In addition she continues her own art practice.
